Wild! That’s really interesting. Lots of birds have interesting smells. Usually good ones. The change in smell when vacationing is fascinating.

So interesting that goldfinches smell like maple syrup. In fact, I found your podcast while I was searching the internet to find an answer to my question. I have a pet cockatiel, he is 27 years old, and he usually smells kind of like dry grain/seed. It’s a nice smell. However, lately every time we go on holidays (sometimes for more than a month) his smell changes to maple syrup. His diet is unchanged, he does not appear to be stressed, just in a different location. Why the change in smell?
